Snap iPhone, Sony Preparing Premium Android Phone

Sony wants to focus on making Android phones for the upscale market. The goal is to increase profits and premium phone against rivals such as the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy.

"That's why we are in this business and why we invest heavily," said the CEO of Sony, Kazuo Hirai, who quoted from the Telegraph, Friday (18/01/2013).

Since the split from Ericsson, Sony has launched several premium Android. The most recent model is the Xperia Z and ZL, high end phone that is waterproof.

Arrival Xperia Z welcomed quite well because of the design and its features are solid. But Sony still had to fight hard against Apple and Samsung.

Samsung mobile phone sales than Sony at the moment is six to one. And the iPhone still among the most popular smartphone in the world.

"It would be difficult for Sony to match (Galaxy and iPhone-ed.). Yet markets will continue to grow and allow Sony to increase sales," said Hideki Yasuda, industry analyst at Ace Securities.

With a focus on premium smartphone, Sony hopes to reap profit because the profit margins are huge in this market. "But the high end smartphone competition continues to grow tight," said Amir Anvarzadeh of BGC Partners.
